The Pros and Cons of DIY Work

DIY is growing in popularity today for several reasons. For one, it is profitable, as one can save lots of money by doing the work themselves. It is also extremely satisfying, as the sense of building, repairing or fixing your own spaces or things can be a rewarding experience.

For someone who has the physical ability and the time to do DIY work it is an excellent pass time. It is doubtless that DIY does involve spending some time, which is one of the main reasons why some people do not get involved in DIY work.

I know someone who built all their furniture themselves, and I am not talking about through a famous Swedish chain either! I mean built it, all in their back garden. Now they have custom built and wonderfully eccentric furniture. Including beds, a gorgeous TV unit, and a bookshelf, with a special shelf for the tv listings book, because it kept getting lost!

DIY does not mean you have to build your own furniture though, it includes anything from repair works, minor fixing to major refurbishment and renovation. A lot of people change their heating system; fix solar heating, change their flooring without hiring a professional. Such DIY jobs are time intensive and labour intensive.

There are many online advice and support groups and forums where people can turn for help. Many DIY help books are also available, giving tips and information on basic topics.
